i'm 23 weeks pregnant, and for the most part, i stay on my left side during the night, but my legs sometimes get pains in them, and when this happens i end up rolling on my back and i fall asleep..
i know sleeping on your back is bad,i was just wondering if there is anything i can do to keep from rolling on my back.
and im not sure how long i was on my back last night,i was there when i woke up, does being on my back hurt my little one?

I slept on both my back and sides throughout my pregnancy. Toward the end I had to have my feet propped up or it hurt. I don't think it hurt a thing...this was the biggest, healthiest baby I've had yet!

Lying on your back can cause compression to the artery that supplies blood to your baby so there is a risk of the baby getting a decreased blood supply. You can get someone to tuck pillows behind your back when you are going to bed to help you stay on your side. A full sized body pillow is great as it offers more support. I know how hard it is to get comfy while you're pregnant. Unfortunately it becomes even harder as you get farther along. I always switched from one side to another through the night to relieve the discomfort. There was just no way I could stay on one side all night.
Best of luck with the new baby! It's all well worth it!!

My Dr. told me that You will know when you CANT sleep on your back.. BECAUSE YOU WON"T BE ABLE TO BREATH>> And he said that doesn't normally happen until the 3rd trimester. If you are worried about it though you can always sleep on a body pillow. OR put a few pillows behind your back.
I have been having problems with my sciatic neerve, of course on my left side. SO what I do is either sleep on my stomach with one of my legs lifted up to prop my belly up... OR I lie on my back with a pillow up under my right side. Unfortunately that is only comfortable for a little while. BUT I have to sleep on my left side when possible because I have High blood pressure.
Good Luck...

I am a restless sleeper pregnant or not. I am all over the bed. When I was pregnant (I have a 10yr old and 2 yr old) there was nothing I could do to prevent me from sleeping on my back. I tried pillows and blankets to "barricade" myself. Nothing worked. My kids both came out fine. They suggest you not sleep on your back because there is more of a chance to lessen the blood flow/oxygen supply to the baby. My doctor always told me not to worry since my body would wake me up and let me know if there was a problem. Don't worry! You have other things to be concerned about!!! Your body will tell you if there is a problem.

I fought with trying not to lay on my back to sleep as well. It doesnt harm your baby but can cause stress on your organs you will feel it though and wake up and role over, then again I had a 10lb, a 9.10 and a 9.2 lb baby so it might have been their weight.
As for the leg cramps take your prenatals and try to get more pottasium in your diet, I would wake up in screaming pain with my first after eating a ton of banana's with my other 3 I didnt have a single calf cramp.

Sleeping on your back is NOT bad. Theres absolutely no reason not to, especially if it doesnt make you hurt. Your limbs will fall asleep and you WILL roll over long before your baby is even remotely effected.
Sleep however you want to sleep. At some point you're just going to be too big and it will just be too uncomfortable to sleep on you back and you just wont.
I happened to sleep on my back until delivery. Not all night, but i generally fell asleep that way.

Those pains in your legs are normal i got them when i was pregnant with my son. Sleeping on your back is not going to harm the baby at all. I had a major problem bc i would sleep on my stomach. All was fine and Good Luck with the little one.

trying sleeping with a pillow in between your legs and maybe an extra pillow behind your back. I slept alot on my back when i was pregnant with my daughter. Sleeping on your back can create pressure on a major vein called the inferior vena cava. This vein returns blood from the lower body to your heart. This may lead to lightheadedness and/or numbness. In addition this may cause pressure on your back and intestines, leading to discomfort. As far as I am aware there is actully no problems leading to the baby from sleeping on your back only causing the lightheaedness and numbness, most women when they feel this in their sleep will wake anyway

Being on your back is definitely not bad for your little bubs. And if your really worried about ti I suggest lay a couple of pillows next to you beside your back so when you get the urge to roll over there will be a wall preventing it but laying on your back isn't bad there's a lot of protection in that stomach of yours don't worry

laying on your back won't hurt the baby, but laying on your stomach will. try propping yourself up slightly with a pillow and stick a few other pillows under your legs. that should help relieve the pain. if it continues, talk to your doctor! good luck.
