How many stadiums have you been to where this isn't the norm.
There have been posts in here that have suggested if you go to see teams like the White Sox, the Yankees, the Phillies that you would be assulted for wearing or supporting the other team's stuff.
Late in the season I was at Blue Jays games in consecutive weeks against the Yankees and then the Red Sox and there were more New York licence plates in the parking lots than Ontario ones.
While we made sure to make extra noise when something good for the Jays or bad for the Yankees happened, nothing happened to anyone on a negative note.

There's two exceptions to that: when they play the White Sox or the Cardinals. There's plenty of fans from both those teams when they play at Wrigley.
But yes, Cubs fans are too much sometimes. Part of the culture of being a Cubs fan is asking for sympathy from other fans and complaining about the goat, black cat or fan that ruined their season (nothing's ever the players' faults), so I don't know what they would do if they actually won. They'd actually have to act happy about something...which is completely against their nature.
Look, the Cubs have one of the most popular and historic stadiums in Wrigley Field, they have WGN which airs their games nationally on cable so virtually anyone can see the Cubs and has opened the door for more Cubs fans, they live in the third biggest market in the country with tons of media sponsorship that puts their payroll way up on the list of rich teams....the Cubs have a lot going for them. Cursed? Hardly. That organization makes a lot of money, which in the end, is the goal.

As one of the diehard Cubs fans, I can tell you that 90% of the people who are in the stands at a Cubs game are either "bandwagon jumpers'' or someone who was giving seats through their company or a friend, and are there to party. because of the exposure of the Cubs on WGN, and the fact that it is nestled in among a great neighborhood of bars and restaurants, going to a game at Wrigley is now more of an event then a baseball game.
Having seen games at about 20 different MLB parks, I can tell you that the fans in Wrigley are no harder on fans of the other team then anywhere else, and are certainly much kinder then Yankees and Red Sox fans ever are to one another. I am married to a White Sox fan, and we have been lucky enough to see our teams play one another both at Wrigley and The Cell, and I can honestly tell you that I caught a lot more grief wearing Cubs stuff at the Cell then my wife did in her Sox jersey at Wrigley. I also had a very dear friend (no longer with us) that was a die hard Cardinals fan, and he and I would attend one Cubs-Cards game at Wrigley, and one at Busch each year, and while the 2 teams are great rivals, the fans in both cities were always pretty fun to be with for both of us. Yes, a lot of ribbing went on, but it was always in fun, and I have never seen it get to the level that it soes in other parks.
I would say that your experience is more of an exception to the rule.

I'm a Cubs fan and Cubs don't always lose. In case you haven't noticed the Cubs won the NL Central. Your statement would hold true for every team in the majors. Case in point went to a Braves-Phillies game at Veterans Stadium back in the 90's (with US Navy stationed in Philly) with some friends who are Braves fans seeing I don't like the Phillies I was with them rooting for the Braves and because we were rooting for the Braves we all had aour lives threatened at least twice for rooting for the Braves and doing the tomahawk chop.

I used to be a Cub fan but left after the Bartman fiasco. They ran that poor guy out of town over a foul ball. Disgraceful. It's never the players fault. There's always an excuse - a goat, day baseball, a black cat, Bartman, always some garbage excuse. It's never that the players blew it. It suddenly occurred to me why Sox fans hate the Cubs and the rest of the baseball world is sick of their whining. The organization is a joke. I can't wait to see what the new excuse is. Ought to be interesting.

I dislike basically the Cubs followers that joined directly to cheer the "stunning losers". whilst WGN went national and later whilst they picked up Harey Carey, a number of those baseball ignorant yuppies with their unfavorable sportsmanship and meanness grew to grow to be followers. Harey Carey replaced right into a comedian tale who got here across acceptance as a results of fact the drunken, particularly ditsy spokesman for game's worst franchise. I sat interior the bleachers with those retards greater situations than I would desire to have and could not at all flow to Wrigley returned. i do no longer hate the Cubs. they're, in spite of the undeniable fact that, the worst franchise in activities background. The Phillies was and nevertheless have greater losses, yet they have been good for greater or less 30 years now. The old Cub followers have been large. knowledgeable and unswerving, they knew baseball and THEIR adherence to a dropping group had to do with grief, no longer clownish habit.

If I'm not mistaken, the Cubs haven't lost that much this year because they are in the playoffs.
Some teams have fans that are a bit more obnoxious than others. Boston, NYY, NYM, Cubs, but that's just the way it is.

Like those above me have stated, it happens in every ballpark. College football games are the same way, be wary of parking with out of state plates or the opposing teams colors anywhere on your car. It will be vandalized.
Cubs fans in particular portray the frustration of 85 years of losing. Red Sox fans were the same way, and now they are worse after having finally won one.
In case you hadnt noticed the Cubs are in the playoffs, so saying they always lose might be a little far fetched.....

Have you been assaulted? I was in Philly for rooting for the Cubs. It stopped when I fought back, and fought dirty. I've been to Chicago with my Packer regalia have NEVER had anything thrown or spit at me. I have taken heaps of verbal abuse, but that's the price I knew I'd pay. The only real downer of that trip was that the Bears won anyway, and I caught heaps more verbal abuse.
The ONLY exception to this that I'm aware of is Steve Bartman, who tried to catch the foul ball during the 2003 NLCS against eventual champion Florida.
