Well just last night I recalled a lil girl who was kidnapped when I was a little girl about 25 years ago and I looked up her name and what i found was a full account of the trial and the people who kidnapped her and all the details... It peek my interest sooo much that I couldn't go to sleep, I stayed up reading the whole manuscript. It even went into the childhood of her kidnappers. Most interesting. Maybe something like that might interest you.

You can't beat a library. It's free, there are tons of books, you can browse as much as you want, and if you don't like the book you can put it back with no money lost.
The internet is good, but it can't beat that.
