Are you sure you don't have ligament damage?
I had similar experience to you, constantly spraining my ankle, saw doctor three times before he referred me to a specialist... Diagnosed with stretched ligaments. See a specialist.

Ok if the doctor has xrayed and all that sort of thing after doing ligament damage for years I have two cures...one give away sport.. I dont think that is going to happen. So the other thing is to strengthen it. Cut a cricket ball or similar in half Nail glue screw it to a round flat board ( about 18inches in diameter) the ball on the underneath side. Stand on the board and it wobbles back forth sideways up down. Do this for as much time as you every day can will help your ankles get stronger. Oh and when you wear ankle boots your ankles are ok.. but you injure your knees Your body works together, take out one link and some other link becomes the focus for all injuries. So make what you have stronger. Swim excercise and do the wobble board. good luck. Hope this helps.

This type of injury amongst footballers was, practically, unheard of in the 60's/70's/80's. This is because they wore proper football boots not the pseudo slippers that are popular today. Do yourself a favour and buy a pair of real football boots and you may well find you do not have to worry about your ankles ever again. Wayne Rooney would never have a poorly toe again if he took his slippers and threw them away! Proper boots are what is needed! (Bj)

Don't play football for a good while.

Do only non-impact excercise like swimming to keep mobility

Suggest you lay off all excercise for a short time, until pain has gone though.

It may be worth the effort, to take 5 minutes and tape your ankles before practice.

Stop playing football and start smoking a pipe.

This is not only a more dignified hobby, interesting ladies find it extremely attractive!
