Unfortunately I do.Even if one begins honest and truly a patriot,power corrupts and eventually one begins to act as all the others do.You lay down with dogs,you get up with fleas.

Some so-called politicians are actually statesmen and can be viewed as relatively honest. Also, the act of skillful negotiation and problem solving is not necessarily an unwanted 'plus' when strolling the halls of the law making bodies.
