i just messed up on the computer and want to take it back to a previous time. how do i do it

Restart your pc, when you first see info (before it opens desktop) press F8 (top row of keyboard) choose safe mode, then
Click Start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore.
Choose Restore my computer to an earlier time-Next
Choose a date on the calendar and follow instructions.
Before restarting your pc, turn off system restore ...start-control panel-performance & maintenance-system-system restore After you restart your pc, recheck box (turn back on) system restore.

Well I'm going to make a few assumptions here... I assume you have Windows XP. First go to your Start button, then Click on the Help & Support Icon. Then on the right side under Additional Resources it will say system restore.

Click on System Restore and hopefully you didn't previously turn it off. It will walk you through the steps to restore your computer to an earlier time.

Depending on your problem, this may or may not fix it. Good luck.

Try Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore to roll back your PC to the day before the problems happened.

System Tools
System Restore

Select a previous date to revert back to.
and follow the onscreen instructions

Click start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system restore, restore my comuter to an earlier time, click next, pick a date, click next. Let computer do its thing.

i think you should format your hardisk and be sure u do a back up or else you will lose all your desired documents.
