They are now obsolete - all our new machines at the College don't have floppy drives.
Floppy discs are floppy by the way - it's only the case that's stiff - try opening one up and having a look.

I think they became obsolete when computer manufacturers started eliminating them in the production process. Nowadays, you have DVD-RWs and Jump Drives that can hold as much information as it would take with 20+ Floppy Disks. Long gone are the days where we would get angry because our computer ate our disk. Thankfully, that gets replaced with our disks being scratched or shattered.

Yes because I heard they said that they are not making anymore desktops with a floppy disk drive anymore. People are starting to use the flash drive and you can just stick it in the USB slot of your computer

Still around but hardly used. The flash drives and memory cards are more popular. Ever seen a digicam, vidcam, MP3 player, PDA or a cellular phone that works on a floppy?

yes mate, although some manufacturers are still shipping their p.c,s with floppy drives
the main drawback with floppy disk drives is their very limited capacity,at 1.4mb its not much good to anyone these days, however they still come in handy when you need to run a start up disk for formatting purposes ect
also alot of modern bios,s still have settings for floppy drives including the default boot order which is floppy drive first
you can allways buy a external floppy drive from http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6752039/Trail/C%24cip%3D1500006463.Office%2C%2BPC%2Band%2Bphones%3EC%24cip%3D1500006471.PC%2Bperipherals%3EC%24cip%3D1500006483.CD%2Band%2BDVD%2Brewriters%2Band%2Bhard%2Bdrives.htm
good luck mate !

Yes, as soon as bios was able to let you boot from a cd-rom, it was over. Now we have USB and I think that will be the next step, there is a lot more info on a usb drive than a cd by far and they are more durable and compact.
