I've experienced many earthquakes in my life here in Calif. The Loma Prieta earthquake was around 7.1 and being I lived on sandy soft soil our house was built on rollers. It shook like crazy and my CD's were flying all across the room. It knocked me down and I couldn't even get up during the shaking. Then I was in the Landers quake down by Yucca Valley in southern Calif. That was the strongest quake to hit Calif. in 40 years. It was 7.3 and woke me from sleeping. The ground shook forever and it was pitch black outside and over 100 degrees. That was very scary. That was felt hundreds of miles away. Then I was in a 5.3 quake in San Diego. I was on the 12th floor of the Hilton at the Harbor Hotel very near the epicenter. The building was swaying very heavily. A brief look outside showed many buildings swaying heavily looking like there were going to fall down. I never saw so many people panic as I did in that quake. It felt like the quake was much stronger than what it was. I guess being up high in the building and close to the epicenter made the shaking much worse. Another scary event. Then there have been multiple quakes over the years in the 3.0-4.0-5.0-.6.0 range. Some mild, some felt strong. I've experienced enough of them to know what to expect. I'd rather have earthquakes than Hurricanes or Tornadoes. I guess I'm seasoned when it comes to Calif. quakes.

True I was asleep in Torrance California in June i think of 1990 (i know the year is correct guessing on the month) and an earthquake hit it was really pretty amazing i was 18 and away from home for the first time i come from mass so i never experienced anything like it i also didn't realize that you can't call into Cali when an earthquake hit so my parent were pretty mad when i called 4 days later my dad told me it was a 5.7 on the rich tor scale.I just recently went back for the first time since i left in 1991 and was very aware that it could happen again and was kind of hoping it would so my kids could experience an earthquake before we came home because we don't have them in Massachusetts, but not this time maybe the next lol.

I've only been through one, but it was a good one. It was in Newberg, Oregon......which was the epicenter of a 5.4 Richter quake.
I was at work at the time and the building was in an industrial area right next to railroad tracks. When the quake hit, my initial thought was that a train had derailed and hit the building. I ran out expecting to see a major accident and carnage.....but the tracks were completely clear. It took me a while to comprehend what had actually happened.
