Rush is a conservative talk show host. He's written a few books and he came under a lot of scrutiny over the past few years when he ran into some prescription drug abuse issues.

The recent fuss has to do with something he said during an interview with a soldier who had returned from Iraq. They were exchanging their opinions about soldiers who are trash talking the war in Iraq, specifically a guy named Jesse MacBeth, who actually never even finished Army basic training, but went around and talked about how he served and how he was envolved in war crimes in Iraq, and even filed for War-time benefits from the Governement which he wasn't entitled to.

During their conversation Rush was referring to MacBeth and a generalization of other people like him as "Fake Soldiers".

Well the US Senate has voted to condemn Rush for being anti-troop. This is a false assertion, and they are taking what he said out of context.

It's a fuss on one side because liberals will look for any reason to crawl down a conservatives throat, and it's a fuss on the other side because we should all be questioning why the US Senate should have anything at all to do with a US Citizen and their right to free speech.

He is a conservative talk show host on the radio. He was talking to a caller about phony soldiers, that is ones who make up stories about their military records.
The left wing liberal loonies are claiming he showed disrespect for the military by using the term "phony soldiers." They took what he said out of context and are trying to bash him because he is a conservative thorn in the side of liberals. His daily listening audience is about 20 million people. The liberals get raked over the coals every day and obviously don't like it.

here is both sides:

http://mediamatters.org/items/200709280010?f=h_latest

now.... those are the facts as each side sees them...

ME PERSONALLY... my opinion...

I think Rush was trying to vaguely say that soldiers that don't support the war aren't real soldiers... but he didn't want to come right out and say that directly...

so he kind of hem and hawed around the point using this one actual fake soldier as a shield for his comments...

he knew he would draw fire for saying this... so he knew if it got too hot, he could just say... "it's the liberal media skewing my words again"... which he knows will only help him with his fans... and he actually did bring up the point about the one phony soldier for his own evidence in his case...

in my opinion... it was a bait and switch...

say something controversial... but say it in an unclear manner while talking about two issues at once

then if you get too much heat... say "it's all a misunderstanding and that's not what I said"

basically how Bush did with Iraq and 9-11... never said Iraq was responsible for 9-11... but constantly mentioned them in the same sentence and in the same topic areas...

EDIT: if you read the transcripts... he was talking about those soldiers who didn't support the war, that were real soldiers, directly before he talked about the one fake soldier... all as part of one conversation... there was no "change of topic"...

is it really that big of a jump to make that assumption? it's really convenient either way...

Rush is one of the most straight forward people on radio he tells it how it is regardless of what people think he is a die hard republican he aslo has/had a tv show for a while I'm not sure if its still on the air or not though says some realy amazing stuff and plays some realy funny song parodys about presidents and happenings in the world today. Whats realy cool is he doesnt just make fun of democrat presidents he will make fun of the mistakes a republican president makes to he is honest and makes sure that he is un biased in all that he says just wants people to know what is realy going on out there instead of what the media states which I know 1st hand is horribly miss spoken.

You would have to listen your self, with an opened mind, to understand Rush. He has a Conservative Radio show 5 days a week lasting for 3 hours. He has been accused of many things. However, he tells the truth and the Liberals are afraid because he exposes their lies. He even has Senators picking his opinions apart, and condemning him. They are afraid he will destroy their agenda.
