No, you don't have to go to a private clinic. My GP (UK) used to prescribe Dalmane on the NHS (it's a sleeping pill) then it was removed from the list of NHS drugs, and only became available as a private prescription. So now he gives me a prescription for 100 tablets (one a night), I take it to the pharmacy, and I have to pay almost £43. But that is about three months' supply, and it's worth every penny.
So yes, you can get your GP to write you a private prescription.

yes they can, certain things have to be written on a private prescription if they are being used for a different purpose from that they are licensed for also things like malaria tabs will be written on a private prescription and viagra if its required and not allowed on nhs( its allowed on nhs if due to other medicine or medical condition) if its just psychological then it has to be private script if i remember correctly from working in pharmacy. if its a private prescription u will have to pay the full cost of the drug not the £6.85 the nhs charges which can sometimes be very expensive.

yes they can. check first to find out how much you will be charged and to see what the cost is for the med.
some time the Dr can charge you for doing that.
