cloroform came to b use around this time... ppl esp the religious ones were against its use to anaesthetize(sp?) women giving birth...cuz the bible said that women should give birth in pain.....so stories were going around that the use of cloroform was transformin birth into a long orgasm......they only shut up when the queen herself opted to be cloroformed
