I gave birth to my little girl almost 3 weeks ago now. I was in 'back labour' the whole time - no pain in tummy whatsoever but all in my back as baby was facing the wrong way round so her back was rubbing against mine. I had these painful back contractions for 17 hours before actually giving birth, and now 3 weeks later I have really bad back pain. It affects the left hand side bottom of my back, and then goes through left hand side of body through my bottom and the top of leg and causes me to flinch when I walk as it's so painful, and to limp when it's really bad! Do you think I could've done some muscular damage when in labour, or do you think it's something else?

I had terrible back and sciatic pains with my first child. You should have a post natal check with your GP - if it hasn't eased by then ask for a recommendation to an osteopath or chiropractor (the latter is a more physical treatment than the first) if the practice doesn't have its own physio service.

Try to avoid carrying and twisting (easier said than done I know) with car seats, in and out of cots etc.

You could also try hot or cold soothers when you are sat down to give pain relief, and if you are able to take over the counter anti-imflammatories such as ibuprofen this may give some relief.

PS number 3 is due next week, and is lying spine to spine despite all my hip twirling! Not looking forward to the labour!

you are experiencing pain in what doc call the scatic nerve and this is common in women who have given birth or is going to give birth. It may take a while for it to heal b/c of carrying around extra weight in the front of you. It feels like a sharp tingling pain running down your back to legs. I have been through this. Get plenty of rest and try not to lift on anything to heavy. Doctors usually prescribe lorcet or lortabs for the pain. Consult your doc. if this continues.

I think you need to call your Doc. A good friend of mine had muscular issues which affected her walk after her first, and needed physical therapy for a few months. She is fine now, but it took her MONTHS to recover and walk normally again.

Speak to your GP. I had this while I was pregnant and also for a few weeks after and my GP referred me to a Physio who worked wonders.
Good Luck and Congratulations!
