Your computer is not being able to find the driver for the sound card. Look in the manuals and see which card you got (more likely realtec 97)........then search for the drivers and download them.............and this shud do the trick.......

P.S. if you can't find the manuals, look for'em on the manufacturer's website.....

multimedia audio controller feels like an onboard device in spite of everything, in case you do not have the driving force put in the device supervisor shouldn't inform you what you have have been given. it actual works any opposite direction around while you're utilising onboard sound then look up what motherboard you have have been given and circulate with that. in case you get carry of a card in there, then you somewhat'll a minimum of desire the producer of the cardboard and you could many times pull the drivers off their internet site

uninstal the device from windows and the drivers.
take them out
reboot the computer without them a couple of times.
then put them back in and when it tells you to install the drivers do advance and selest were the drivers are located
then it should work if not call the manufacture for a refund

"just reformatted my comp" - tells me your motherboard drivers are missing.

Use the Belarc Advisor to identify your motherboard, the go to the manufacturer's web site to get the drivers.
