Deceased seems to be the one I use the most in conversations,
but a spontaneous response would be either bite the dust or
kicked the bucket,but only in passing of someone I do not know personally.

I liked:
Kicking it with Elvis;
Passing to the other shore (because it's super cheesy);
Becoming worm fodder/ food for worms;
had his/her life cord snipped;
passing beyond the reach of fate (i think I read that in one of those fantasy books...one of Robert Jordan's, I think);
I'm sure there are better ones, but those pop to mind very quickly. If I think of something better I'll add those later. ^_^
