I've never been sacked from a job for speaking my mind, but as a public figure in charge of a high profile case it was not Goncalo Amaral's place to make statements about the running of the case or the behaviour of the arguidos in that case. He should have been impartial and only interested in finding the child or finding evidence relating the disappearance of that child.

this situation predated the McCanns. no count if or not the law enforcement officials are accountable of any crime, is a controversy for the Portuguese government. truly somebody interior the justice device thinks there's a case to respond to. i'd choose to make certain the final sentence qualified. Which case are the McCanns calling to be totally investigated? their own, or the previous examine into the little Portuguese woman's loss of life?

All respect to erudite man for speaking his mind. As stated previously on Q+A, there is political and financial pressure being put on the Portuguese government regarding this case. I only hope that they have the courage to resist this great interference from the friends of the McCanns, and that justice will be done !

No.
However the Portuguese police decided that his behaviour was inappropriate and dismissed him from the case. Not the British media, the McCanns, the British Police or even us on Yahoo.

The Cop was right - about what he said about Gerry McCann...

No but my job doesn't have politics and fake people involved, I think he was right to say what he did, but it was against our Law, on the other hand they can sue some of the British press for defamation of a national Police force respected in Europe (the numbers say they are No1 against organised crime and drugs) although with the support from Scotland Yard (the PJ not each officer).
Have a star it's an important point.

Edit:
ScaryMary "gobbing off and speaking their mind about the PJ's." -That's what they do, that's why he said what he said!

"This is against Portuguese Secrecy Laws" Well said, so why the McCanns as suspects keep feeding SKY News with the most "Ludicrous" stories and details of their interview with the Police and never been charged of that? ...strange!

Edit:
Mrs G love to have you back, had a good time?

Hi Sue
I have never been sacked from a job, but i have been removed from an Internet site for speaking my mind.

How many people believe the mccanns are guilty of something? Neglect to start with.
If this had happened in Brittan, in my opinion the McCann's would now be awaiting a trial, for manslaughter and assisting in a crime and perverting the cause of justice.

I have spoken, how many support me??

Come on say what you think, don't hold back i can take it good or bad, its called freedom of speech.. Gulp

The man was sacked because he was out of his mind.

He was sacked for running down the UK police who are involved with the investigation. He told the media that the UK police were only following leads from the McCanns. I think it also shows who has been leaking stories to the Portuguese media all along. He is also under investigation for beating a confession out of a mother who was supposed to of killed her daughter. He's a disgrace to the Portuguese police.

I've never been sacked for speaking my mind and I often pull out my soap box from under my chair. If I speak my mind then it's constructive and I accept it from other colleagues as well. What I don't do is run to the media and run down people.

He deserves to be pulled off the case.

I sure would like to see a link that says it is proven he is a drunk.

BTW he was not sacked..he was sacked from the McCAnn case but was transfered to anothe police station. I say it was probably worth it to him because he is tired of the insults by the British Media and McCann supporters.
