no, actually that is not a very scientific answer. It seems to me that maybe they put more air than feathers in there and seal the cotton/poly with some sort of chemical treatment to hold the air in and somehow this is water soluable and then all that is left is the feathers minus the air (fluff)....but that is just a guess..
