If you change a file name extension, the file may become unusable.
Are you sure you want to change it?

How can I stop it from saying this so I can rename image files once again?

And please tell me how without using computer jargon because I'm not Bill Gates ok?
Thankyou.

Geek you're wrong and heck Tofu you could have been more specific with your answer.

*sighs and waits impatiently for an actual properly detailed answer*

Hello! I'll be the first to admit that I am not Bill Gates either, but I happened upon this question and thought I would let you know what I did to stop that error.

1. Click on 'My Computer'
2. On the top tool bar click on 'Tools'
3. Click on 'Folder Options'
4. Click on the 'View' tab
5. Scroll down until you see "Hide extensions for known file types'
6. Un-checked that box
7. Click 'Apply' on bottom right
8. Click 'OK' bottom middle

You should be done. This allows you to change the name from: picture27436 to Joe at the Beach and have no problem!

**I know that this is basically what was said in the other posts - but I got these easy step by step instructions from a computer guru who generously dumbed them down for me!
He said that I was trying to change the name and the file that opens it, not just renaming it (Like changing Resume.doc to New Resume). If I remove the .doc the computer does not know to use Word to open it and my file is useless. By hiding the extensions (.doc, .jpeg) I can change names and not worry about changing the program. What ever - this fix worked and I'm happy!

You can't,

Windows is telling you that it's potentially dangerous to change File extensions. Windows uses the extension to choose which program to use to open files.

TIP: For example, when you rename a ".jpg" modify the Filename part only and the message won't pop up.

On any opened windows, TOOLS / Folder Options / View / Hide Extentions for known file type.
