Everything that we see taste touch hear smell feel think experience is nothing but electrical impulses interpited by our brain. for example we were taught from birth to recognize certain objects say like a cup. everyone knows what a cup is, when you want a drink you get a cup you know that when you see a cup it will be there and when you reach out your hand you were taught that if you touch the cup you will feel mass there by confirming the exsistence of the cup. but when it is nothing more but electrical impulses being interpeted by your brain is the cup there? take a schizophrenic for example, schizophrenic's hear and see things that we do not ,what they see or hear is nothing but impulses interpeded by the brain so is what they hear real? some would say no. what about what they see? some delusions are so real they can hold conversations with people who we do not see, what would happen if they tried to touch one of their delusions? would their brain feel, hum electrical impulses

Your asking in WAY TO MANY sentences....

If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it does it make a sound?

Just because you are not there to perceive it does not make the event any less real.

When you are referring to a schizophrenic, they have problems/issues with their translation of the electrical impulses or brain. It is operating outside what would be considered a "normal parameter".

Well when you consider that only 10 percent of the brain has been "tapped" you have to wonder what the other 90 percent holds.

I agree with you from a scientific point of view.

That also makes you wonder then if it's true that terms like "normal" and "abnormal" are VALID terminologies.

For a brain to be normal, it would function in a POSITIVE capacity. An abnormal one with more complications. However, chemical imbalances are what usually cause those abnormal impulses that create delusions etc.

Much of what we turn out to be is LEARNED indeed, which is why we have all the problems in the world that we do.

People can learn GOOD things and BAD things too.

We are all products our our ENVIRONMENT are we not? And I'm not talking about the weather.

I just read about this in my philosophy book, and can not think of the guys name who came up with this theory.
In understanding disorders of the brain, we have to get at the root of the problem. You mention Schizophrenia. How do we know that when we see them talking to somebody that is not there, that there is not someone there spiritually? If you go back to the time of Christ, you will find that there were "lunatics" (as they called them) back then. people that were actually possessed.
Jump forward 2000 years, and we eliminate any possibility of this and put everything into a sceince based outlook.. looking at it this way, we need to try to find out what caused the breakdown? was it something traumatic? drugs? alcohol? many possible contributing factors could be found.
just my outlook on it.

Philosophy 101 - Does the chair exist if no one is in the room?

Another question for you to think about. Are the colours you see the same as seen by another person? You were taught 'red' is 'red'. But does it appear the same in another person's eye? Incidentlly he was also taught the colour 'red' as 'red'. 'Darker' shade as 'darker' shade. For all you know your red appears as green in his eyes.

I know colours can be defined by wavelength etc but again they are 'measured' (vs sense) and 'defined' (vs interpreted as taught).
