A SSID is the name you give to a wireless router so you can find it when looking for a wireless network to connect to.

What you need.

First you need a DSL or other broadband internet connection.
Then you need the Broadband modem so your computers and console games can talk to your internet service providers computers.
Nextyou will need a wireless broadband router to connect to your broadband modem.

After all that is connected together you will name your wireless connection, the SSID, and you will then have a Wireless cababilities in your home.

You then turn on your wireless on your Nintendo and wala, you are on the internet.
