Futurama, The Simpson's has had it's day.

Futurama and here's why. It took me awhile to get into Futurama because it's very necessary to see each episode in order. This was impossible on tv but once I got the DVDs, I could see them in order. Many episodes build on the much larger stories than the Simpsons (or practically anything else), and much of the characterization is built up over the course of the series. There is a depth to the stories then that is simply unmatched in the Simpsons.

Also, since the creators knew the show was being cancelled they were able to include things like unusual story lines, and off beat episodes. Also, since the locations of some of the stories is fantastic, the art work is often amazing and wonderful in its own right.

Finally, the theme song is better. Since it doesn't say the name of the show (like The Simpson's does), it's a more universal tune. Also, it rocks out a bit more while incorporating a bit funk as well. Kudos to Christopher Tyne.

What sweetclea said. Futurama has a fraction of the Simpson episodes and the writing is not as good. Last few years of Simpsons suck, but overall...Simpsons by far. I can only recall a couple Futurama's that were classic. Simpson's have endless classics.

I like both because I get a good laugh from both. But since you asked for a judgement, I have to say the Simpsons are better because the writing gets better all the time. Futurama was successful because the writers have discovered what works through the Simpsons. Both are pretty good just for the sake of deconstructivist writing: plenty of meta-comment, classic themes, ideas from many sources and genuinely sweet when the characters mean it. (Sunami, 2004)

The Simpsons- because it is more on point with the caricature of Americans and American life.

The simpsons... It is the only cartoon that you can rewatch episodes and feel as if you are watching it for the first time.
