is it poss to have a faulty temp gadge this is a long one but bear with it there is a point

recently having problems with over heating in a 95 corsa sri 16v thought it was a rad job but now starting to think gadge is faulty i was on the road yesterday car was running for bout 10mins if that and the temp went to 100 so pulled over switched her off and left her about 2-3 mins switched ignition on to see where we were up to and the temp had gone down to below 90 in 2-3 mins. so off we went again on motorway doing 70-80mph and temp went straight up to 100 again so pulled on to hard shoulder by the time i had stopped (which wasnt very long when u think your car is gonna blow) the temp had gone right back down to below 90. now on all the times she has over heated never seen any steam at all. does every one agree ifs a faulty gadge or is there some thing im missing????????????

hi ther two things come to mind, first of all check to see if your radiator fan is working when hot this is a common problem secondl there could be an air pocket in cooling system, when cold take off radiator cap and run engine squeeze radiator hoses this will dispel air another thing it could be thermostat but try the first two things jock

The thermostat. how long has it been since you replaced it? You are referring to 100 degrees C. aren';t you? Most Chevy's are made to run at around 190 to 192 degrees F. that is roughly 88 to 89 degrees C.
How long has it been since you flushed your cooling system good and replaced the coolant?
How long has it been since you had the radiator cap tested or replaced it?
How long has it been since you changed your radiator hoses?
How long has it been since you changed your fan belts?
How long has it been since you washed your radiator out good to get loose dirt, grass etc out of it?
All the above are routine maintenance items you need to do every year and any one of them can cause engine to run a little hot.

without seeing the car i would suspect a head gasket fault, very common on vauxhalls, if you take it to a reputable small garage i am sure they would test your cooling system free of charge and then quote you for the cost of the repair

start by replacing the radiator cap. it may sound strange but if the cap is bad it will ALWAYS over heat regardless of how many other components you change.
