The Middleveld is the name given in South Africa to a vast and geologically complex region that lies in the region north of Pretoria, in the Northern Cape province, and in Namibia. Its boundaries are not as well defined as are those for the Highveld, but generally it lies at an altitude between 2,000 and 4,000 feet (600 and 1,200 metres) above sea level.
