I have a buildup of salt in the aircooler what can I do to stop it or clean it out?

just use water to clean it up..

If it is salt, hot water flush should dissolve it.

My guess is that it is a calcium build-up which can be cleaned with products such as CLR, weak solution of muriatic acid (obtainable from swimming pool products suppliers) - both must be rinsed thoroughly.
