My phone was dipped in water by my son and I was still able to use it. I immediately opened the phone and let the water evaporate. Although, after some time the battery started dying every now and then.. I had it replaced and everything good again. My phone was very cheap. :)
* Does not work though if it gets wet by salty water...

It's possible, but not guaranteed either. It's probably too late to tell you this now, but here it goes.
Immediately take out the battery without touching any buttons, so the motherboard in the phone doesn't do any extra work. First and most important thing is to cut all power to prevent any shorts from happening in any of the circuits, that's why you immediately remove the battery before ANYTHING. Don't attempt to save any numbers on your SIM card or turn off the phone by pressing anything. Then just let the phone fully dry off, wait at least 3 days, in a warm and dry area. Once you think the phone is completely dried off, attempt to turn it back on again and hope for the best!

Take it apart and remove the battery. Leave the phone off for 24 hours(DO NOT TRY TO PUT IT BACK TOGETHER!) After the 24 hours, put the battery back in. Should be ok unless you cracked the screen. Worse case senerio is that you will have to replace the battery, which is cheaper than replacing the phone.

Take out SIM, take out the battery. Put it on toilet paper in front of the fan for a couple of hours. Still, it's strongly advised, that you sell this phone. After water accidents copper contacts inside the phone are slowly starting to oxidize. That's no good at all.

Take out the battery and any parts you can, and set them on a towel to dry. Let the water drip out, gently shake it. leave it for an hour or blow dry it on NO HEAT.
I've jumped into swimming pools [twice] with my phone in my pocket. I saved it once.
Good luck. In an hour or two put the pieces back together.

A similar thing happened to me actually, but I was getting off the loo.
It made a bit of a plopping sound, and that was the last time I heard it. Electrics and water don't mix.
New phone I guess.

It's possible that it may come back to life. Take off the faceplate and battery and just let it air out for a few days. If it was really expensive.... I'd try to stick it out a while before replacing it.

If you pulled the battery RIGHT away, it can!! I have saved my wife's phone several times from this porcelain lined watery grave. You REALLY have to remove the battery right away, and let it dry thoroughly.
The lack of salt in the water is your friend.

It's possible! A girlfriend of mine dropped hers in the dunny too and left it out to dry. Leave it for a few days (maybe a week?) before trying to switch it on again.
When I was a kid I spilt Fanta in my Sega Mega-Drive and it worked again after a few weeks! (But I did spend those few weeks crying and thinking I'd never get it back!!)
