Many times.
I was a chess champion at one school and beat the chess champion at the next school but turned down the title not wanting to join the team.
I have played a great many strangers and lost to some too, but; it took them a long , long time to collect those victories, even in timed matches.

Yes, i have played in Spain in a chess club competing too,I have won a few trophies against strangers.
