I had the electricity go out for 10 days straight with 4 kids during the middle of winter with snow on the ground! They were 6, 8, 11 and 13. They couldn't go to school because of it! It was awful! I would NEVER want to go through that again in my life! No thank you!

After the hurricane hit our whold state did not have any electricity. I live in Mississippi, about 250 miles north of the coast. When it hit it wiped out the coast and came striaght up through the state. We had 70 mile gusts which blew off roofs and knocked out trees. We live by the river and you could drive to a bridge and go to Louisisana and they had power and everything, just could not use a credit card as something was wrong with the phone deal for using it, but phones worked.

We had not electricity for aobut two weeks. Not very fun. Real hot, no gasoline, no food, just ate from cans and stuff, no grocery store open. Did have gas, but felt sorry for people in all electric homes. Did have Coleman lamps and enough meds for the older folks and jugs of water No not much fun. Hope Bush and next President leave Israel alone. Everytime they try and make them give land away we get hit. The next one that hit Texas was the same day that Israel gave up the settlements in the West Bank. the big one hit on the day they pulled out of Gaza. This is not the first time read up on it. If you want to see how it is just turn off all lights and refrig and a/c for a couple of days and take cold showers.

While everybody was glued to the tv watching the Superdome, there was nothing left in Mississippi, fortunate for those people it veered off and hit Mississippi, it might have ripped the roof off the Dome, but here is the most bizaar thing, less than two miles away on the other side of the river in Gretna Louisisana they had electricity, food, hotels, you name it and they would not let lthem go over there. That was insane, that rest of the state was untouched. I will never understand why the mayor of New Orleans didn't call the cities across the river and ask them to send buses to take the kids and elderly to the hotels over there. You got Algiers, Gretna, Marraro and many more towns right along that hiway. The Gov. could have done it and asked them to put them up in the hotels and set up all of their shelters, but instead of that they sat with their thumbs in there mouths. In Florida the Gov. has the National Guard ready to roll before they get hit and they knew this was a cat four or five. It takes time to get National Guardsmen from Minnesota to Louisiana. That's the way we saw it. Also they said they didn't let them over because after Ivan they rioted. Well the officials could have done it in an orderly way and taken care of the problem. Go figure.

It was a nightmare for the children and older people and I would not wish that on anyone. We did have water and a roof over our heads, the folks on the gulf coast had nothing, nothing.

That actually happened to me and my son during a hurricane. We got along very well. We used the charcoal grill to cook food and a big cooler to keep the food from spoiling. The water stayed warm until thursday and the lights were back on by Friday. The only problem was I couldn't get online. I am going to get another laptop andkeep the battery charged.
