Weston Super Mare is a coastal resort in Somerset, south west England. My grandfather used to run pleasure flights from the beach there after WWl until a storm wrecked his plane and he wasn't insured!

About an hour's cycle ride from Bristol.
The tide seems to be out most of the time leaving what seems like miles of mud.
There used to be a good swimming pool on the front which was a substitute for swimming in the sea, but last time I went that was just a ruin after being turned into something fanciful.
A good Aquarium, fairly mediocre "New Pier", donkey rides, lots of B & B.
The once upmarket hotel "The Grand Atlantic" now looking quite seedy - belongs to a coach company.
Not really worth bothering with - much better places further South.

North Somerset

It's nickname is Weston-Super-MUD.

Not worth a visit in my opinion.

Head to North Devon (which isn't that far away) for stunning beaches.
