The original poster did not say he couldnt donate anywhere just thought it was stupid to give a million dollars to a multi million dollar making franchise.
And even football scholarships are a waste to. What percentage of these kids actually graduate.
All he is saying is that with all the problems this world has, with so many kids sick and hungry couldnt he have tried to help them than already privledged atheletes.
And if he makes it public and uses this for his publicity...yes it is our business.

It is because Miami has been doing terrible lately in football. Dwayne Johnson wants to help them improve, since he played there. He can no longer play for them, but what he can do he will, which is donate money to the program.
Yes, it is very vain, but to someone whose whole life has been football, it makes total sense.
Some people think that donating millions of dollars to save some little endangered insect is vain, but it all depends on where your heart is. Johnson's heart is still in Miami.

I actually think that it is great that he gave back to his alma mater. I think that if you have the money you should support an organization that supported you. The majority of that money will be most likely utilized to make improvements to the stadium for better fan experiences (therefore they can make more money), or scholarships for football players, yes not all may graduate, but at least they are getting some education, that they may not have been able to afford in the first place. I think that Johnson is great for showing his care, because he monetarily can, to the University's football program. If it were your money, then you can donate whatever you want to whatever you want.

I can't help but agree. Then again the man made a living being a professional wrestler so can we really expect too much?
Listen to all these dumb people on here. "Who cares if there are kids out there starving. The Rock decided he wanted to give one million dollars to a University so that the players that play there can start fights on a new field and be an embarrassment to collegiate sports in style. Who knows maybe that money can help someone who is dumb as a box of rocks forgo his education and go straight to the NFL and be criminals and fight dogs or something. Those kids probably can't even throw a football."

Yes, the rock could've donated it for something better. Though the school is his alma mater and he has the right to give HIS money to any place he wants. Plus he probably is trying to jump start a football program that was once the best in the country but now is just mediocre

Hey smartguy, there is always a "better place" to donate money, no matter what you choose to give to. If you make millions of dollars, what the hell is wrong with giving back to the place that was your launchpad to stardom. Whether that is a church, a community center or a top-rated football team. Who are you to tell that man that HIS money should go elsewhere. And that's a million dollars, whos to say that some of that money won't go to scholarships? It can't all go to a new locker room and pretty new uniforms.

Dwayne Johnson decided to donate his money to the school because that's where he got his start. Plain and simple it is his decision to give his money to the school for the athletic programs and that is not a bad choice to do.

at first when i read your question i thought "why in the world would someone be opposed to donating money to college kids?" but then i thought again and i realize what you're saying. they have enough money.
i'm coaching a squad of competitive college cheerleaders and it's going to cost them about $800 per girl to go to Nationals this year and the school isn't even helping with any of it. and even though my girls aren't rich like the U of Miami team, i would STILL rather see the Rock's money go to a charity or a scholarship. that $1 million isn't going to make a big deal for the U of Miami football team, but it could make a HUGE difference in someone's life, such as donating to children's cancer research or something like that.
i'm one of the biggest sports proponents out there, but even i think there are things that are WAY more important in life, like your health or your education. he really could have spent his money more wisely.
