Thanks to all who contributed answers over the years. What actually happened was that we refinanced and dumped Macquarie Mortgages who were ripping us off just as the GFC was looming. It was horrible. We had to go a year with their pounding rises (every few days at some point). I am sure they should have been locked up for such disgraceful behaviour against customers. I still have the last 12 unopened letters as I was too stressed out to open them. We moved to a different bank as MM were not accessible in an actual building. Altogether they ripped us off by about $150,000 altogether. ($40,000 just to cancel their shocking account after 1 year) So, if you are thinking of getting a mortgage, please post here and I will give you some advice not to take and end up a nervous wreck. Once bitten twice as shy.We are now debt free because of the Lord, who answered our prayers in miraculous ways... bye bye MM...and the CEO who took $40,000,000 in retirement around the GFC. Shame.

Don't waste your time on Y!A for a start - you won't find a job on here.
The amount you need is only around £220 per week and you must be able to earn that working in a supermarket or a petrol station as long as you work your bits off with extra overtime.
