I guess he was invited. After some time has passed, I have changed my opinion. At first I couldn't believe that a university would invite this lunatic, but then I decided that it could be a good thing... it gave everyone a chance to see how f'd up he really is and how he snaked his way around answering questions truthfully. He is an enemy of the U.S., and I don't think that his presence at the university, did anything to help him...it only exposed him for what he is...a despot. I am glad that the Prez of Columbia went after him so hard and made a fool out of him.

Good question and you have t read between the lines. Now certain students on the campus have traditionally run off certain people and groups that have come to the school to speak. The president never made a statement whether who they insulted was left or right thinking. He has never said one think. Funny the latest group they ran off was one that was stopping drug trafficking and illegal imigration into the country.
Now they invite the president of one of the most radical countries in the world that does not like America. The country doesn't allow free speach, gay folks, women to wear modern dress, supports what the other countries call terror and is in the process of aquiring nuclear weapons.
At first it looks like the left wing invited him to show the world that this guy represents a country that is peaceful and what they stand for makes sense. Unfortunately the countries in Europe, many Arab countries and the like think otherwise and believe they are a radical nation, beat on destruction of whom ever.
The logical thing to do is invite him and either disrupt his speech (typical) or listen intently. Since they didn't start a bunch of trouble as with other groups, they must agree with him, but for the schools sake and to make sure the rest of the world looks at America as a borish nation, this school president walks to the podium and makes a bunch of statements meant to degrade the guy, which is out of character for this school teacher. This all makes me wonder what is going on.
But they make the world think that America is unbending and will not give the guy a chance, even though the Arab nations do not want them to give these weapons because they consider this regime very radical. Did not help that we originally overthrewn their democratic government, but that's another story.
Who cares, in the end we are all ants in a giant ant farm.

He was invited by the Student Body- to get some "extra attention" for their School. Well, they're a pretty smart bunch- because they got EXACTLY what they wanted- & a whole lot of "entertainment"- thrown in ! :) Good for C.U. ...-They're no slouches!

He was invited.
Apparently at the last moment it didn't appear to be the greatest idea.
