Hey there - I think I might be coming down with a UTI - I know that if you can acidify or alkalize the system enough to prevent the bacteria from reproducing, it might be averted....

One Nurse I worked with swore by one, and another, the other....

I have both sitting here - which do you use yourself?

Cranberry juice. It acidifies, but a lot of things acidify. There is something in cranberry juice that keeps the bacteria from adhering to your bladder.

I don't think they even know what it is that does it. I have seen it described as "a tannin," as huppuric acid, and as a polymeric substance. Whatever it is, it is only found in cranberries and blueberries.

I'm all for cranberry juice, but you have to get the cranberry juice cocktail, not the better-tasting blends.

I had a doctor once look at me like I was crazy for saying I was going to drink cranberry juice for a UTI. He said just drinking any fluids was the best bet. But I don't mind the cranberry, so I say go for it.

cranberry isnt a proven fact.. theres really no scientifc proof to back it up but..

Drink A LOT of water and pee often. I suffer from chronic UTIs (...yes.. worse thing ever).

I tried the whole cranberry thing and it didnt do anything for me. What I do this is drink water AND use cystex & uristat. Cystex is an otc antibiotic for UTIs and uristat is an urinary pain reliever. I do a combo of the 2 untill I can see a doctor.

word of warning: EAT plenty of food BEFORE BEFORE BEFORE you take cystex or uristat otherwise u will end up w/an upset stomach!

best of luck! feel better soon!

Cranberry juice would be the one to use if you can stand the taste. If not I recommend Uristat, you can buy it at any local pharmacy.
