Yes you can and there are several ways to do it. You can take letters from your last name and the fathers last name to make a new one, you can hyphenate it or you can take the first half of yours and the last half of the fathers to create a totally uniqus last name. Best of luck!

I don't know if the hospital will allow that. It's best to give the baby either your last name or the father's. The baby has to be identified with one or the other parent for security reasons and insurance reasons not to mention taxes, you just might be creating more of a problem if you give him a different name. However, when the child is older you could possibly change his name, but if I were you, I would allow the child to make that decision himself when he becomes of age to legally change his name.

Legally you can give your baby any first, middle and last name you want. You can totally make something up if you like. It won't affect child support, or anything like that as long as you are listed on the birth certificate as the mother.

I don't know if it would cause confusion down the line, but I doubt it because there are so many people nowadays that have different last names than their children. Go for it!!

yes and it doesn't affect the child legally (in regard to child support or otherwise) so long as you are listed on the birth certificate and other legal paperwork as the legal, custodial parent.
if it were necessary to justify your child's name, imagine how many celebrities would be awaiting a court date.

Yes you can. I am not sure if there are any other fees that you need to process. but since it isn't a name change on the new person's part, I wouldn't think so.

Yes, but you may lose some leverage when you go to collect child support if that is the situation.

good idea Mandy. after all we are all individuals alone on this planet.

we may come from two other bodies who we call our parents, but in the true sense we are really are separate, so each child born should have his or her unique name. I lie your idea go for it.

that is depend if you are married yes!
but not married and the father not accept then the best is to put on your name and the father can not claim for the child but on birth put both for his sake.
