A hernia. I was pulling wet bath towels out of the washing machine and felt something pop "down there" and was just in the most excruciating pain. Every step I took was like getting kicked down there. They did a sonogram, then an MRI, and scheduled me for surgery the next morning. Then they gave me some REALLY nice drugs to take the edge off the pain.
But, here's the kicker. It turned out to not be a hernia. It was a benign tumor the size of a lemon. I don't know how they missed that with the MRI and all that. But the next two weeks were hell on earth waiting to find out if I had cancer.
As with any abdominal surgery, it took me weeks to recover.

I went into hypocalcemic shock. Trust me when I say ... I'd rather give birth to 10 babies, one right after the other, rather than go through hypocalcemic shock again. It's like a severe muscle cramp .. but not just a leg or arm, it's your whole body .. for over 4 hours! :(

i had my tonsils out as an adult. the pain was excruciating. they would not give me the morphine drip cos i had asthma. i had codeine and a throat numbing spray. every time i swallowed i would go...ok you have to swallow now..1 2 3 swallow....owwwwwwwwwwwww. gods it was awful. so i overdosed on painkillers. oopsy whoopsy. panadol type stuff. just the over the counter stuff. i tried to do it right..say 6 every four hours or so..but apparently not.....i couldnt stop vomitting.

Personally: I was in a head-on collision and injured several various parts of my body.

In general: a friend was in a bike accident and I drove him to the hospital to have surgery.
