BadBender: I think it's been more than a few year's since Star Search was on. I used to watch it when I was a kid. As far as I can remember the most successful person to come from that show was Sinbad.

Sure... I think it inspires others that want to sing or have a career in music. They can also learn from judges and other singers.

Not really because the judges are only looking for people that can sing really well. A few years back there was a show called Star Search. That show displayed some talent from people that can do all types of things you if you couln't sing maybe you could dance well or do ballet. It wasn't limited.

Hello first of all thank you so much for helping answer my question about my cockatiel it makes me feel so much better.

And yes i do think talent competitions can have real value besides TV entertainment, some awesome singers have been discovered, I'm from Australia and Damien Leith won last Australian Idol last season and he is great.

Not to mention it changes peoples lives and gives them a chance to do something they love that they might not of otherwise got a chance to do.

People should always be given a chance and that's why i think they have real value.

NO!!!!

Some of the most successful careers made from that show are from people who didn't win. (Daughtry) I guess in theory it's ok because it give someone a chance, but there are too many musicians/bands out there that have far superioir talent that never get a chance. Winning fame by a glorified game show is cheap and petty. Are these people song writers, and musicians, or are they products of a TV show, and subsequently the record label that pushes and molds the winners into the type of performer they want them to be?

Not at all.
Shows like this are in the business for making money.
Thats the objective, and thats it.
