Can the influence of alcohol be considered a truth serum so to say in social circumstances? Are there any studies out there to support this? Or is it simply a depressant reminding us of what we do not have? But what about all the happy drunks out there??????? THE TRUTH IS ALCOHOL LOWER ONES INHIBITIONS WHICH AFFECT ONES DECISION MAKING PROCESS,GIVES ONE A SENSE OF FALSE CONFIDENCE. EXAMPLE FALSE COURAGE. ALCOHOL IS CLASSIFIED AS AN DEPRESSANT WHICH AFFECTS THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. HAPPY DRUNKS IS A OXYMORON LIKE ARMY INTELLIGENCE. THE TRUTH IS ALCOHOL IS THE GREATEST STAIN REMOVER IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND IT WILL REMOVE ANY STAIN WHEN APPLIED,IT WILL ALSO REMOVE YOUR FAMILY,JOB,FINANCES,LEGS,EYES,CHILDREN,HOME ARE JUST SOME THINGS THE SPIRIT OF ALCOHOL WILL REMOVE. I think that alcohol is just a depressant. It does not cause anyone to tell the truth any more than any thing else. I know I lived with and alcoholic for 8 years before I decided that for the safety of our daughter and her emotional health that it would be better if her father and I ended our relationship. IF Alcohol is really a truth serum than why has he not had contact with his daughter in all that time??? Drinking should help him to realize that he has a daughter who needs him and even though she's angry at him she still loves him. And he can't use the excuse that he does not know where I live, I've been in the same place for 28 years. Her uncle, grandmother, and her aunt (all his family) always send her cards and money for birthday and Christmas, His mother and he live in the same house so it's not like he can't ask her for the address ( he lived here also) if he forgot the address. So no I don't think of alcohol is a truth serum at all. It just destroys families and injures people especially children.

I know what you mean....well, in some cases, some people think that alcohol is a truth serum for example when Mel Gibson was caught giving some Anti-Semetic slurs when he was drunk...but then some people think that an unattractive woman is beautiful when the man sees her and he's drunk. But, I think it is a truth serum because...well, altered state of conciousness type reveals things.

Alcohol lowers ours guard and inhibitions.The net result is, what ever name we can ascribe to it to suit our point of view.Apparent effects like that of a truth serum are just a small part of the whole gamut.

alcohol may reduce inhibitions in some people, but that doesn't make it a truth serum.
