Gretzky. Who would be better? a humanitarian, that has played the game since he could breathe, and is indisputably the best hockey player ever to live.

George W. Bush

Just kidding.

Maybe Bill Gates? He is good at making money, but shows humanitarian tendencies and seems pretty smart, so he might not be a total idiot commissioner. Of course, he probably doesn't know much about hockey, so he might be a bust.

It's a tough question. All that is known is that Bettman must go.

Gretzky can barely get Phoenix out of trouble. In fact, there isn't a single player that could do it. Brian Burke would be a good NHL person to take over the job. Whatever it is, DO NOT LET THE NBA RECOMMEND ANYONE WHEN THE TIME COMES! Goddamn David Stern sent us Bettman on purpose.

There are a bunch of guys right for the job.

Stevie Y
Scotty Bowman
Mario Lemieux
Wayne Gretzky
Don Cherry (ok not so much)
Someone above 5 feet.

But my point is there are a LOT of people i would rather see than Bettman.

i think bowman would be ideal for the job out side of him .... hmmm maybe a person that is purely a business person sense we have seen lawyers don't work. I'm afraid a former coach or player in today's environment wouldn't get approved. owners would see it as scales tipped against them too much when cba comes up. wait i got idea just came to me its radical. no commissioner just a 5 man committee each with equal power that way no one person could make idiotic rules or moves or anything bettman like.

Don Cherry. He is decidedly PRO north american. He wants the Nhl to succeed on both sides of the border and he knows in order for that to happen certain teams do not belong on the Southern side of the border.(why do you think he rallied so hard to get the Preds to either Hamilton or Kitchner/Waterloo) He loves the league and he has the managerial skills and the know how to make it happen.

I don't care who replaces Bettman as long as they care about the game, not lining the owners pockets with money while driving the league into the ground.

Wait until Loblaw gets a hold of the people who nominated Grapes.......You are all gonna get it!!!

Bob likes Cherry the way that Jenni likes PB's. Not so much.

even though i'd hate to see him leave the devils, Lou Lamourello (i spelt that sooooo wrong) would be a good choice, IMO.

He had virtually no experiance coming into the nhl, as he was just a college coach.

20 years later, he holds te same job as devils GM as he did back them, he is CEO, occaisonally coach, and the current (and maybe overall) longest lasting GM of a team.

this guy has to know something about hockey...

I think Yzerman is content with being VP for the Wings, and GM for team Canada.

I'll go with Scotty Bowman also. He's getting up there in age though...Didn't he room with Chelios in College?
