I've heard that it is not good to shift from reverse to drive while still moving, yet I see people do it all the time. Is it better for the transmission/engine to come to a complete stop before shifting gears?

yes you should come to a full stop before shifting from reverse to any foreward gear. the additional wear and tear on the clutchpacks , both hydraulic pumps, and the shock load to the gears is hardly worth the seconds it takes to drive properly.

Yes it is definitely better for the car to be at a complete stop. It makes everything last longer and stay in better condition. That's why you have to hold the brake to shift. I don't think it's as important if you have an automatic though.

Definitely. Changing gears on an automatic transmission can be devastating in the long run, try to avoid it as much as possible.

It puts less stress on the tranny. So come to a complete stop, and then shift.

It's better on the clutches , for sure (yes, auto trannies have clutches too). I dont know for sure if it'll kill it, but my dad used to do it all the time and his tranny failed at 79k. I think as long as you do it at a verrry slow speed, it shouldn't hurt too much.

when in your car come to a stop. the people you see not stopping.... watch and see whose tranny lasts longer. I'll bet it's your's . though I'm bad about not stopping myself. When mine goes I'll let you know.
