"The ground control station stated that the target was American and for the aircraft to confirm it," Forslund recalled. "The aircraft did confirm the identity of the target as American, by the American flag.

"The ground control station ordered the aircraft to attack and sink the target and ensure they left no survivors."

If this is just old news, lets forget about the Holocaust. That is even older news.

This is old news. It was no accident and that is well documented. On the other hand, you might as well talk about Fort Sumter or Nazi provocations that suggested the Poles were attacking the Germans on the eve of WWII.

I hardly equate the enormity of the Holocaust to the attack on the Liberty. The two are not in the same league. I fail to see the relevance of your statement to the modern world. If you seek affirmation that it happened, I gave it to you. You asked a question that is already answered in the world body politic so I fail to see what you seek to achieve other than to stir a pot that requires no stirring...at least on this particular topic.

The Liberty was giving the Syrians the Israeli "Order of Battle" which is about the most significant bit of military information you can give someone's enemy. The attack shut that action down. The US government only supports Israel as opposition to the Arabs, who flirted with the communists in the 1960s and 1970s. Were the Arabs to become freedom-loving free-handed dispensers of oil who still hated Israel, the US would leave the Israelis high and dry.
