Bret Morrison was the voice of the "Shadow" for most of 1943. Frank Readick & Orson Welles were also the voices of the Shadow, which ran from 1943-1954. I was just a very little girl but I do remember that " deep voice & the cackle."

The expression comes to mind occasionally and I use it like you do once in a while without the cackle which I never mastered.

My children used to laugh at me and the wife when we talked about sitting around "watching the radio" until one summer when we took some old Shadow tapes on a camping trip... Mid way through the tape I stopped the tape and asked them why they were watching the remote speaker that was setup for the evening's entertainment. They got the message!

We had a big RCA floor model radio when I was little and my bro and I always listened to the Shadow. I have a very deep voice and can do the cackle. My mom's doc once said to me about mom--only the shadow knows. I hope he retires soon, he was a lame doc.

Many years ago, a friend of mine used to give his name as Lamont Cranston when making a reservation at a restaurant. He either said this name by phone or just in person and I don't think any host or hostess ever got the joke. I guess they were all too young to know about "The Shadow". I loved that program and still sometimes use that expression.

Yes, and to this day my youngest still says "The wind Lord, The wind, send the wind"when he is angery at someone, just like he would do when he would get upset with me or his dad. Hes almost old enough to be in our category.
