i have 512ram i want to buy 1gig of ram do i need to buy to stick of ram or two

use the RAM selection tool at crucial.com to ensure you can add a single 1GB stick to the system. Its much easier then trying to guess. even if you do not buy the ram from them they will let you know if you can add a single 1GB strip or not, or how you have to configure your RAM to your system.

You can buy another 512mb - which is what I am doing at this time.

Before you invest in any more, you should check the specifications of your PC to see how much RAM it will tolerate. For example, my laptop has a maximum of 2gb - but I feel 1gb is sufficient for my needs.

You can either have two 512mb ram modules (which would be cheaper considering you already own one)

Or you can get the 1gb module which would save space if you decide sometime in the future that you want to upgrade again..

Depends on how many slots you have on the motherboard

Its safer to double up.....but really doesnt matter

just buy one.

Just buy another 512GB stick, it will be cheaper and you'll have 1GB all together
