the form is of metal and has characters(letters) inscribed in form. The plate is 3 inches wide and 6 or 7 inches long. It is made of cast iron and appears to be a mold of some sort.

its not a "mold" unless the letters are backwards, and then you have found a metal printing press stamp. Maybe.
If it is, these go through stages of begin VERY valuable and the totally worthless pretty regularly...check and see the market before selling.

Sounds like an old European car license plate, or street sign...what are the letters?
