I have a SONY VAIO cr series. Super sexy design and color. I choose the sangria red version. Stunning, yeah. Maybe the best brand in design? Well, it is obviously one of the best in the market. The macbook are also sleek.

It's nice that money is no object for you. There are many good brands on the market - but the best one is that which meets your needs and has good support. Trust me, good support is as important as the price.

I have had personal experience with Dell and HP. Of the two, I think HP offered the speediest and best support -- yet I bought a Toshiba laptop because it was on a weekend special for $399 with a free printer. Looks good to me and works just fine.

Why buy a cadillac when a ford will do the job? That is, why buy more than you need? It's just wasting money.

I have no idea what features you need, so I can't quote a price (and I'm not a sales rep). I would say to get three features: As much processor power as you can get your hands on, as much drive space as possible, and as much memory as you can cram into the machine!

I have used both Dell and HP laptops and have done support for HP; I like HP very well. Dell makes a very good computer (in fact, that's what I'm on at this moment), but unless you are prepared to do your own support, I'd stick with HP. Dell's support is in India; nothing against Indians, but their knowlege isn't up to par as far as I'm concerned; their accents are also VERY thick and hard to understand many times. I'd stick with a company whose tech support is in the US or UK, unless you're very good with computers. Even *I* have to call from time to time, and I'm pretty good :-)

In a mainline 15.4 inch screen. Two good choices would be the Dell 1520 or the HP6500t. Two top sellers that can be had with most of the top options in the 1000 to 1500 range.

I´ve had an HP Pavilion for two years now and I´m very
satisfied with it, there are now smaller and lighter lap tops in the market, but I would stick to HP if I were you. Don´t know about the prices.

dell makes nice looking laptops, and they are usually pretty cheap. They offer good discount's for college kids. I always trust dell. don't buy an HP. My girlfriend just got one and it has so many problems.

Apple computers are very nice, but they are kinda expensive (they start at $1099 for a 13.3" macbook)

I have a macbook (13.5" i think) and it was about $1,099. I love it. It is fast, no pop-ups, fairly lightweight.
