Do all cows have issues with defecating? I think some cows are so cute but I really don't think I want a pet cow with feces stuck to it all the time. Anyone ever met mini-cow breeds? There are 26 or so breeds, I wonder if they have the same poop issues. This honestly is a serious question, because I like cows but if they really are that messy I'll reconsider. Please only people familiar with farm animals reply. Thanks!

It depends on how they are kept too. If there are alot of cows all in a barn close together( I have seen cows poop right on one another too when kept in close quarters) that is not cleaned a couple times a day then they often end up just laying in it. If they are out in a field however they tend to stay a little cleaner since there is more space and they don't usually (some cows are just dumb and lay down where ever) lay right in a pile of manure. If the cow is kept in a large enough enclosure that is cleaned once or twice a day they shouldn't have too much of a problem with being kept clean.

I was up by my sister last winter when the cows are kept in the barn quite a bit (she's got dairy cattle--Holsteins). ALL the cows had crusted on manure except for three. I pointed to them and asked what was going on with those and she said those three didn't like being messy, they kept themselves clean.

So it probably depends on the cow. If they're standing in stansions (those things that hold the head when they're in the barn) a lot of cows don't back up far as they can to poop into the gutter area, they do it where the stand, then when they lay down they're actually laying in the manure.

Out in the fields they don't lay in it, it falls wherever it falls and they lay down on clean grass.

If you keep them in a clean area big enough for them to have separate 'potty' and 'sleep' areas, they are usually fairly clean. Yes, there are several miniature types. Just type in miniature cows into a search engine and you should find several websites about them. You might have to travel a little to get one though. Before you get a cow, keep in mind the space/shelter you need, the food, and also the vet care. Make sure there is a vet in your area that will work on cows (including vaccinations and trimming feet) if you want your cow to be a healthy pet. Good luck if you decide to get one, miniature cows are very cute!

Ok don't get a cow...They're so messy and hard to take care of! and when they poop it will be really smelly..You shouldn't get a pet cow just because it's cute it really is alot of hard work you know.
