Are there any online sources I could use that would help me to learn how read, write, and compose music?

Probably. I would Google it. I never gave it much thought. I learned to read music in 5th grade, when I joined the school orchestra. It's true what they say though. If you don't use it, you lose it! Last time I looked at sheet music, I didn't automatically know how to make the notes, or what they were! I lost my violin many years ago (broke my heart), and haven't been able to play since. If I ever got a chance to take it up again, I would have to start off with scales again to get used to reading the music. Of course, it would probably go much quicker than the first time!
To answer your question though, you can find books at any library, bookstore, or music store, to help you, if you don't find what you're looking for online. I bought my fiance an inexpensive keyboard and some self-learning type books, for his last birthday.
Might be a good place for you to start, since you would want it written for piano to start with. Or you could collaborate with a musician. You write the lyrics, then sing them the way you want it to sound (or hum, if you're shy!), and the musician could write the music. Unless you're thinking of just doing instrumentals. Then you pretty much have to start from scratch! Good luck!
