Why is the world the way it is? So messed up?

Why is the world so crooked? Wars, abuse, hunger. For there to be good, must there be evil? Isn't there another way?

Capitalism - read Marx. His ideas about how society will magically fix itself are unrealistic, but his assessment of the problem is spot on.
