Everything they eat is turned into glucose, this is the basic fuel of mammals, the glucose feeds the cells and provides energy for muscles.

The organism has to eat food, digest the food, move the digested molecules to the vicinity of the individual cells. Then the molecules should diffuse into the cells or be taken in through special proteins in the plasma membrane.
