I would like to emboss some designs on denim - what is an easy way to get a design to stick/show?

try michaels,or Walmart . they sell tulip fabric paints and lots of other things to put on denim, here is a link to michaels so you can see what is available.

Emboss? As in change the surface structure rather than just add something to it?

Begin with denim with a *high* synthetic content, not all cotton and/or linen and/or hemp. The synthetic portion can be molded under heat permanently, like ironing hair only worse. Create positive and negative molds, at least one of which should be metal.

Experiment with different heat setting on scrap materials ... begin with lower settings and work you way up.
