Checkers, Life, but my all time favorite is Monopoly. You can play Monopoly for days at a time and it never ends. It's a very good game for families. Also it helps young children with money management.

Chess, Go and Clue, are all fine games, but my favorite currently is Arkham Horror, an adventure board game put out by Fantasy Flight Games, where all the players are on the same team, cooperate, and try to beat the game - not each other. It is a little bit Pricey ($50), but it will give you a lot of bang for your buck. (The base game alone weighs about 5 lbs.) There are currently three expansions out for it: The Dunwich Horror ($40), The Tomb of the Dark Pharoah ($20), and The King in Yellow ($20). A forth expansion is due out relatively soon (Kingsport), and will probably also run around $40. It is a little bit of a long game (games tend to last for three to four hours), but it holds interest well, and is never the same game twice, particularly with the expansions.
I highly recommend this game. :) However, beware, you will need a fairly decent sized playing area (particularly with the Dunwich Horror expansion) to fit this on your table.

My favourite board game is any that will get the kids to turn off all the electronic gadgets and games and actually sit around a table together and have some good old fashioned family fun time.

HAHA! The list gets long, once you start looking into it, board games go just as far as computer games.
I most enjoyed:
Twilight Imperiam
citadels
Age of empires 3 the board game
and a few others I can't remember the names of.
I'm thinking about getting into warhammer 40k... every time I look at the pieces, I think "I want one!!!!"

SCRABBLE!!! It is fun, it teaches spelling and strategy and keeps the dendrites in the brain connected helping to avoid Alzheimers!
There are local clubs everywhere--you can google the National Scrabble Association on Google to find out where.

Depends on the mood. Either Monopoly, chess, or Scrabble.

I love to play chess but suck at it. The game I love the most that I'm actually any good at is Masterpiece. It's a pretty old one. You have to buy art and auction it off, and it gives you a look at some classic pieces.

Go, by far. It's easy to learn, very hard to master. Complex and simple at the same time. Fun for everyone, if given the proper handicap.
