It's all tied up with who I am. I was the go-between and fixer during my childhood, became a wife to an adult child and mother to 4 children. Was a caregiver for both my dad and grandmother until they died. And now it is also my job.
I have actually started taking some time every few weeks for me. When the kids are gone, I will tell my friends and family I am busy and just veg for a day! Read, shower until the hot water is gone, paint my nails and take a nap. It does me a world of good to turn off the caregiver sign every once in a while!

Not any more. After a life time of caring for others I now only care for myself. Anyone who doesn't like that can come talk to my frying pan. It's here on the stove and well seasoned.

Is this a trick question? Yes, I have no problem taking care of others. When it comes to myself I don't even know where to start. I know what I should do, what I can do. I just don't do. I can't even explain why.

It's one of my biggest flaws, I'll help others all day long but it's very difficult for me to take the time for myself or to accept help from others that want to help me!! I've tried getting past it but I guess my self esteem problems get in the way!!

In my field I'm always taking care of others its more than a job to me and yes i do tend to neglect myself but i promise to work on that part.

Most definitely. I have 2 children and it's so easy to care for them, but by the end of the day I've definitely forgotten about myself. I don't eat regularly, but always make sure they do. I don't brush my hair regularly, but always make sure they're clean and groomed.

I guess mine stems from motherhood and my undying love for them... :-)

I don't have a problem with either and I do my fair share of both. My wife and I are "mutually attuned" and have a keen awareness of each others needs and wants. (sorry about that "mutually attuned" thing, it just popped into my mind).
