The battery says it should be fully charged in one hour at 5 amps.

I assume that you have one of the sealed type batteries, if so don't worry about the fluid level. Hopefully it did not get too hot, overheating is what ruins batteries, it causes the internal plates to warp and touch each other shorting out the cell. The only thing you can do is try it. Good Luck.

If the electrolyte level is low, add water only. Acid doesn't boil away. If the level isn't low, you should be fine. Most battery chargers reduce the charging level as the battery charge comes up. Just because you set the charger at 5 amps doesn't mean it charged 5 amps the entire time. If it did actually charge 5 amps for 6 hours, most likely the battery had problems to start with. Batteries with dead cells will continually take a charge without ever becoming full charge.

If it's fully charged in one hour at five amps, it's capacity is about four ampere-hours (the battery returns a bit less than that put in). By overcharging by a factor of six, the life was probably shortened. It likely needs some distilled water to replace that which was electrolyzed, even if it is a "sealed" gel-cell.
It may still give a few years if service, though, so all is not lost.

check the water levels you can easily boil out the water... re fill with distilled water just under the lever line on the side or fill to the black plastic top cover.. wash off well and put back on bike should be good to go... best thing to keep the battery charged is a battery tender.. about 29 bucks you leave plugged in when not riding and it will always start

Depends on its capacity, you don't want to overheat the battery. Typical is charge at 1 amp slowly so as not to damage cells.

You probably smoked it. They should charge at no more than 2 amps. The plates warp and touch.

Have you any acid left in it? You've likely boiled it off.

If there's still electrolyte above the plates, you may be lucky, if you've had to top it up, then it's only use will be as a paperweight.
